Blue light is the high energy portion of the visible light spectrum and is known as High Energy Visible Light (HEV or HEVL). Most electronic devices like smartphones, computers, tablets, TVs and even light bulbs emit blue light. While UVB rays penetrate the outermost layers of skin, HEV Light, like UVA rays, penetrates into the lower layers of skin. Both UVA rays and HEV Light generate free radicals and can cause skin to age prematurely as well as induce hyperpigmentation which can lead to conditions such as age spots/sun spots and melasma. Given that most of us spend the majority of our time on our phones and computers, it's important to protect our skin from this environmental aggressor.
