Does Supergoop! use organic ingredients?
Interesting fact: organic is a chemistry term that refers to any chemical compound that contains carbon. All life on earth is based on organic compounds. This is the term used to classify the “chemical” sunscreen actives as they all contain carbon in their molecular composition. It is a much more accurate term than “chemical”. On the other hand, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide (what we know as “mineral”) are actually inorganic sunscreen actives as they do not contain any carbon molecules.
The organic claim in the beauty industry is somewhat misleading -- the FDA does not regulate the term organic for any beauty or personal care products and the USDA does not have the authority over the production and labeling of cosmetics so there’s no government body in the US to certify these claims. For the most part it’s just a very misleading marketing claim.
